Athena Strand, The mother of a 7-year-old Texas girl allegedly kidnapped and killed by a FedEx driver called the suspect an “absolute freak.”
Athena Strand’s body was found in Boyd, Texas, on Friday after she was apparently taken from her room in Paradise earlier in the week.
Athena’s mother, Maitlyn Gandy, 26, thanked those who helped search for Athena and condemned the man accused of taking her in a series of scathing posts on social media.
Tanner Horner, 31, was arrested in the disappearance and death of Athena and charged with capital murder and aggravated kidnapping.
Athena Strand died at the age of 7 years old.

“Athena is innocent, beautiful, kind, intelligent and just the brightest, happiest soul you could ever meet,” Gandy wrote.
“I don’t want her to be the girl known to be the one killed and discarded by a monster. I want everyone to know, every single person in this world, that this is my baby and my baby was taken from me.
“Athena’s case and the trial against the absolute monster that took her from me could very well be moved to another county or district in Texas due to the great community involvement (for which I am very grateful),” Gandy wrote, asking others to do it. he shares the story and the photo of his daughter.
“I don’t want the bastard who took my baby from me and brutally murdered her to go into any city, town, county, state, or country without everyone knowing her face,” he added.

Athena was in the care of her stepmother when she disappeared, authorities said.
Police said they believe Horner, a FedEx driver, kidnapped the girl when she delivered a package to her home at the time she went missing, CBS reported.
“We knew from the beginning of the investigation that a FedEx driver had made a delivery in front of her house around the same time that 7-year-old Athena went missing,” said Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin. . he said.
Athena likely died “within the same hour after her departure from her home,” said Akin, who did not disclose her cause of death.
Horner reportedly confessed to the kidnapping.
He is being held on $1.5 million bail.
