Brittany Kinlow, Chicago police investigators are investigating two separate deaths in an apartment that occurred a day apart, beginning with the murder of a University of Illinois Chicago student expected to graduate next week.

FOX 32 Chicago reported that the body of 23-year-old Brittany Kinlow was found by officers Monday in her Belle Shore apartment building. Authorities stated that the woman had a gunshot wound to her head and died at the scene.

A day later, the body of 26-year-old Jovan Cabrera was found in an eighth-floor apartment as authorities issued a search warrant. The cause of death was not disclosed.
On Wednesday, officials said they are investigating each death as an isolated incident. A police spokesperson told Fox News it was unclear whether Kinlow and Cabrera knew each other.
Kinlow was scheduled to graduate from college on May 9, her aunt Danielle Kinlow-Cephas wrote on Facebook.

Police said the man, identified as Jovan Cabrera, was found at his apartment at noon on Tuesday when police wassuing a search warrant.
In an update to voters, Osterman wrote that Cabrera’s death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Tribune, the police suspect it was a murder-suicide.
Police are classifying Kinlow’s death as a murder investigation, while investigating Cabrera’s death as a death investigation, according to an incident report. The report states that detectives are working to determine whether the deaths are linked.
A police spokesperson did not provide an update on the case Wednesday afternoon.
Holmes said Kinlow’s relatives did not know Cabrera and were awaiting more news about the case from the police.
Accompanied by Holmes and other activists, the family managed to break into Kinlow’s apartment in the historic Belle Shores building and rescue his two cats as well as some of his personal belongings.
A GoFundMe was launched to help the family pay for Kinlow’s funeral.
“She was a sweet, caring, caring young lady who had her whole life ahead of her,” said Tony Richardson, a nonviolent organizer who said Kinlow was in contact with her relatives. “He didn’t do anything to deserve this.”
