When she first went to a doctor, she was allegedly told that there was “nothing to worry about”.
But after the lump began to grow, he was diagnosed with a rare cancer that can cause tumors to grow in the bones or surrounding soft tissues.
After her diagnosis, Jenna received chemotherapy and participated in a clinical trial.
But the treatment eventually stopped working and the cancer had spread to his lungs.
Just two weeks before her death, doctors told Jenna there was nothing else they could do.
Her 17-year-old younger sister, Liam, admired Jenna, calling her “bubbly” and saying she “always smiles”.
He told the Manchester Evening News: “Jenna was always making sure everyone was okay before her.
“There wasn’t a time in the day when he wasn’t smiling. We were really close and did everything together.”
Liam said his sister has dreamed of becoming a teacher since she was eight years old.
After completing her education at Turton High, Jenna began her teaching degree at Edge Hill University.
But in her second year of training, she noticed a lump on her shoulder.
Liam said, “He came home one day and called me.
“He said I had a small lump on my shoulder and I said it didn’t look too bad, but get it checked out.
He went to the doctor and they said, ‘There is nothing to be afraid of, we think it’s a cyst’.
“She kept growing, so she came back. After a few tests, we learned that something worse was happening.”
Jenna was diagnosed with cancer in July last year—just months after her father went into remission after battling brain cancer.
Liam said that Jenna maintains a positive outlook despite fearing the worst of her loved ones.
He said: “She just wanted to break and sort it.
“It was just Jenna, she. All she wanted was to make sure everyone around her was happy, she.”
Jenna’s family set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Foundation, which supports families and funds research into the disease.
So far, almost $7,500 has been donated—more than six times the initial goal.
Liam said, “It’s good to see how many people care about him.
“He had a lot of great friends and they were all helping with fundraising.
“It’s been tough, but it’s good to talk about all of our memories of Jenna.”
