Michael Lee Laflex A Minnesota father allegedly executed his daughter’s boyfriend and buried him in a makeshift grave after he suspected his daughter was being abused, authorities said.

Michael Lee Laflex of Brainerd was charged earlier this week with second-degree intentional homicide in the death of Bryce Brogle, whose body was found Sunday.

Brogle, 23, was first reported missing on Oct. 28 by Laflex’s daughter, who told authorities she hadn’t heard from her boyfriend since he went to a storage unit with her father for two days. earlier, according to a criminal complaint.

In a probable cause statement filed Nov. 1, investigators detailed a phone call from an anonymous “concerned citizen” who reported that Laflex had previously told a relative that he believed Brogle was abusing his daughter.

The family member allegedly said that Laflex admitted to shooting Brogle in the storage unit and moving his body with a sled, saying “they wouldn’t find it.”

Brogle’s landlord also told authorities that the father had recently called him to ask if his tenant had hurt his daughter, according to the criminal complaint.

The landlord told Laflex that he had seen her with two black eyes, to which Laflex replied that he was going to kill Brogle and “he had already dug the hole.”

Laflex was booked into the Crow Wing County Jail on Saturday and authorities discovered Brogle’s body during a foot search the next day. It is unclear where exactly his remains were found.

The Brainerd Dispatch reported that an autopsy determined that he had died from a gunshot to the back of the head.

Brainerd Police Department arrest records indicate this is not Laflex’s first brush with the law. In September 2018, he pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual conduct after being accused of having sex with a vulnerable adult with developmental disabilities.

The victim, who is described as “mentally disabled,” allegedly refused to have sex with Laflex, but later “accepted…at [her] insistence” on her. His trial set for September 2018 was canceled after the judge issued a stay of adjudication.

Laflex is being held on an unconditional $2 million bond.
