Nicole Hammond a Minnesota woman was shot outside her workplace for “repeatedly” rejecting a co-worker’s relentless advances.
Nicole Hammond died in the parking lot of her St. Cloud workplace on Oct. 24 after she was shot in the neck by her partner Jordan Carpenter, police said.
Carpenter, 36, fled but was tracked down about three hours later hiding in a home in nearby Sauk Rapids, according to a St. Cloud police statement.
Nicole Hammond died at the age of 28 years old.
Shot & Killed
The night before Hammond was killed, text messages indicated that she told Carpenter that she “didn’t want him to touch or manipulate her,” police said in the statement, according to the newspaper. She had spent the previous month “repeatedly” rejecting advances from her, according to the statement.
The suspect was in possession of a firearm and was arrested on murder charges.
The woman had texted the creepy coworker a day before her murder and insisted she didn’t want him to touch or handle her, a probable cause statement obtained by the Kansas City Star revealed.
Hammond had “repeatedly” rebuffed Carpenter’s romantic advances in the month before the violent murder, police said, asking him “not to make things awkward at work.”
Police found a text message Hammond sent to a friend saying Carpenter was mad at her.
The harassment was evident among other co-workers, who said Carpenter has a “bad temper,” according to the outlet. The alleged killer admitted to officers that he was “upset” by Hammond’s rejection the night before her death.
However, the ongoing harassment was never reported to his employer, Dubow Textile Inc., CEO Rob Dubow told Fox 9.
“Unfortunately, we had no idea,” Dubow said. “Any time there is something that requires our intervention, we intervene. But in this case, we had no indication that anything was wrong.”
Carpenter did not admit to murder, according to the probable cause statement, but claims he was walking toward Hammond’s car when he heard the shot.
The alleged killer told police he ran away because he was “too traumatized” after seeing the body of her love interest.
“He did not render assistance, did not go to work or call 9-1-1,” police said.
One of Hammond’s supervisors remembered her as a “beautiful, intelligent, determined young woman.”
“You deserved to live your best life, but instead they took your life,” Savannah Shawn Townley shared on Facebook. “Our team is forever broken without you. Fly high angel!”
A 36-year-old man from St. Cloud, Minnesota, has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing his co-worker, police said.
Michael Carpenter was arrested in connection with the death of 28-year-old Nicole Hammond, who allegedly rebuffed advances on him, according to a police probable cause statement obtained by the Kansas City Star.
