The grandfather of a little girl who was beaten to death by a 4-year-old Rottweiler is now facing murder charges.

Mauled to Death by Family Dog
Olivia Grace Floyd, of Fishersville, Virginia, was taken by ambulance to Augusta Health after authorities responded to a report of a dog attack on a home on January 29, according to a report from the Waynesboro County Police Department.
Only 7-year-old Little Olivia succumbed to her injuries later on. An unidentified woman was also injured in the attack, but was treated and discharged.
According to a joint press release from the Waynesboro County Police Department and the Waynesboro Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Waynesboro’s Stephen Christopher Kachmar and Penny Lee Bashlor were indicted on May 13 by the Special Grand Jury on the following charges: Murder, out of capital; manslaughter: involuntary; child abuse, serious injury; cruelty/injury child; and the vicious dog—the seriously injured person—all felony.
Both Kachmar, 60, and Bashlor, 64, face up to 70 years in prison and are currently held without bail at the Middle River District Prison.
Additionally, Olivia’s parents Brooks Anthony Floyd and Alicia Rene Floyd also face charges of cruelty/injury to any child with a possible prison sentence of up to five years.
Brooks, 39, is currently held at the Middle River District Prison. Alicia, 37, was released on personal bail on Friday.
It is unclear whether all parties have legal representatives to comment on their behalf.
Olivia was a sophomore at Wilson Elementary according to her obituary. Described as “a brave, sweet, and loving little girl who gets along with everyone and loves life,” Olivia loved cheerleaders, gymnastics, dance, unicorns, and animals, and attended Linville Creek Brethren Church. His favorite colors were purple and pink.
A GoFundMe, set up to help the family pay for Olivia’s funeral, raised nearly $30,000, and those who touched Olivia’s lives offered kind words in the wake of her tragic death.

A family friend wrote, “My heart breaks for this young family. This beautiful boy was a schoolmate of my great-grandchildren Jax & Lucia. An unimaginable loss.”
“I was Olivia’s teacher for the year and a half when schools were virtual,” wrote another. “I loved Olivia’s smile, her happy nature and her courage. My heart and prayers are with the family. I will miss her more than words can say.”
