Ron Masak was an American actor, he has died. He started out as a stage actor and much of his work was on stage until he transitioned to film and television where he became a family actor.

Ronald Masak was born in Chicago to Floyd Louis Masak and Mildred Alice Rudy. His great-grandfather Karel Masák (1861-1899) was a Czech immigrant from Zvěrkovice near Týn nad Vltavou.

“Murder, She Wrote” star Ron Masak has died.

His granddaughter Kaylie Defilippis confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter on Thursday that she died of natural causes at a hospital in Thousand Oaks, California.

The Chicago native was best known for playing Sheriff Mort Metzger in “Murder, She Wrote,” as well as earning the nickname “King of Commercials.”

Ron Masak died at the age of 86 years old.

Career

He joined the show in 1985 and acted in about 41 episodes until its end in 1996.

For 15 years, he represented Vlasic pickles, expressing the product’s icon – an animated stork. Other voiceover work included doing commercials for companies like Rice-A-Roni and Glad sandwich bags.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Masak made guest appearances on such iconic series as “The Twilight Zone”, “The Monkees”, “Get Smart”, “I Dream of Jeannie”, “Bewitched”, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”, “Police Story” and “Wonder Woman”.

In 1968, Masak made his film debut in the Rock Hudson film “Ice Station Zebra.” His other film projects included starring with George Hamilton in “Evel Knievel” in 1971.

His other movie roles include “Second Effort”, “A Time for Dying”, “Laserblast”, “The Benchwarmers” and “Angels on Tap”.

In addition to being a screen icon, Masak was involved with charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project, Childhelp, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. He has also hosted the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraising telethons from Los Angeles several times.

Masak was also an author, penning his 2009 memoir, “I Met All My Heroes From A to Z.” The book described his memories of inspiring people he had met throughout his long career.

Wife & Children

He was born in Chicago in 1936 and is survived by his wife, six children, and 10 grandchildren.

His “Murder, She Wrote” co-star Angela Lansbury also recently passed away, at the age of 96 earlier this month.

Cause of Death

Masak was the honorary sheriff of Tarzana, California for 35 years.

On October 20, 2022, Masak died in Thousand Oaks, California at the age of 86.
